Today we bring up the topic of free alternative control panels to CPanel. Surely you have heard about the famous CPanel which is included in most hosting and domain providers, this control panel is a proprietary software and currently looking at their website the prices range from $20 to $45 per month depending on the type of VPS or Dedicated server, plus it comes integrated with WHM. Now, if for some reason you cannot or do not want to pay that money, there are several options for free licensed control panels. These have different operating characteristics, are installed on different Linux distributions and allow you to manage your FTP server, MySQL, DNS and more. Below, I leave my considerations about free control panels.
Control Panels – Webmin / Virtualmin
Highly configurable and very robust tools for rational consumption, very secure and with a very active community, and the functionality can be increased through the installation of modules. At first the interface was not very pleasant for me, but in the latest versions it has improved.
Control Panels – VestaCP
It is considered one of the most powerful and economical in the use of resources, it is open-source, but it is difficult to install and configure due to the technical details to take into account.
Control Panels – CentOS Web Panel
For CentOS operating system specifically version 6, very complete control panel, advanced and incredible interface. From my experience it consumes quite a lot of resources.
Dashboards – EHCP
This is one of the free alternative control panels to CPanel Open source, very configurable with many FTP services, database, user panel and email. Based on my experience with this control panel, the FTP server can have some operating problems. There is a version called EHCP Force Edition where some things are improved.
Sentora
It is open-source under the GPLv3 license, it is modular since through the installation of modules you increase its functions. In a way it is the continuation of the well-known ZPanel. It is designed primarily to install and work with:
- Apache HTTPd
- PHP
- ProFTPd
- MySQL/MariaDB
- Postfix
- Dovecot
It has a growing community with discussion threads in its forum. Based on what I have experienced, it is currently one of the most stable control panels in existence. Easy installation, intuitive, pleasant and adaptable work interface. It can be installed on Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS and unofficially on Windows. In summary, I think that each of these control panels has features that can be adapted to the needs of what is sought, according to the function and what we intend to do with our servers.
